Moving target digitalisation: re-thinking global exchange in higher education

10/05/2020 to 05/08/2024, Online

Virtual Conference during the German Presidency of the EU Council

On 5 - 6 October 2020, the German Academic Exchange Service invites the international and German higher education community to the virtual conference "Moving target digitalisation: re-thinking global exchange in higher education". The Call for Contributions is open now until 1 August.

The international conference focuses on new aims and opportunities that arise from the digital transformation and its effects on internationalisation in higher education.

How do digitalisation processes and the introduction of digital formats in higher education affect policy making and reshape institutional practice? How can digitalisation help ensure academic excellence, boost diversity and foster inclusion? What is the digital way forward to strengthen the European Higher Education Area and make it fit for the future?

Five areas of internationalisation in higher education will be at the centre of the debate during #MovingTarget2020. They are (re-)viewed through the lens of digitalisation:

  1. Collaboration, Cooperation and Partnerships
How does digitalisation re-frame international collaboration between higher education institutions?
  2. Mobility and Exchange: Physical – Blended – Virtual
How are student and staff mobility schemes transformed by blended and online formats?
  3. Administrating Internationalisation Digitally: Data Ecosystems and Data Sovereignty
How can digital infrastructures and shared data standards help streamline administrative processes in the European Higher Education Area and beyond?
  4. Attractiveness of HEI in a Global Knowledge Society
How does digitalisation foster internationalisation, attract and retain international top talents as well as raise the attractiveness of institutions, regions or countries?
  5. Knowledge Transfer, ‘Third Mission’ and Open Education
How can global knowledge transfer be supported in a digitally connected world, especially to address challenges that transcend national boundaries?

Presentations and interactive formats, such as workshops, live demos and colloquium sessions, will provide diverse perspectives on the target areas and ample opportunity to join the discussion.

The conference is primarily directed at representatives of Higher Education Institutions, their International Relations Offices, Online Learning and IT Departments, partners from European University Alliances, students and policy makers.
