Applied mathematicians are funded by the EU

The RISE-network with 23 partners take new methods for image and data processing into practice

For a european research network, that surveyed new methods for image and data processing in applied mathematics, the european comission funded 1,1 million Euro within the "Marie-Skłodowska-Curie" measures. The Münster university's mathematicians Prof. Dr. Martin Burger and Dr. Daniel Tenbrinck together with Prof. Dr. Carola Schönlieb from Cambridge University, coordinate the project in which 23 universities and industrial partners participate.

The title of project, which lasts at least four years is "Nonlocal Methods for Arbitrary Data Sources". The participating researchers are mainly mathematicians and engineers. They survey non-local relations in data sets. This may help in everyday life, e.g. to make algorithm for correcting digital images more precise and stable. The focus of the project is besides the classical image processing also the medical imaging and material research.

The project is a practical and interdisciplinary platform for researchers from the Konsortium and will help strengthen the knowledge transfer beween universities and the industry. The fund is mainly used to send out researchers to partner universities within the network.
