On 29 September 2021, the European Commission officially launched five new missions to tackle in an ambitious and focused manner major societal challenges and find solutions by 2030 in the areas of health, climate and environment.
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is selecting new members for its Governing Board. Leading academics, entrepreneurs, innovators and researchers are encouraged to apply and help drive Europe’s ability to innovate. The EIT Governing Board consists of 12 European innovation leaders appointed by the European Commission for a four-year mandate as well as a representative of the European Commission.
The Business Acceleration Services of the European Innovation Council (EIC) are organizing two additional editions of their EIC Innovation Training Workshop, in which only researchers from EIC Pathfinder (FET-Open & FET-Proactive) and EIC Transition projects are allowed to participate.
On 23 July 2021, the European Commission published a pre-draft of the Annotated Model Grant Agreement (AGA) for Horizon Europe on the Funding & Tenders Portal. Already at the beginning of this year the Model Grant Agreement (MGA) for Horizon Europe has been published, which will serve as a template for the grant agreements between the Commission or the executive agencies and the beneficiaries the new framework programme.
On 16 July 2021, the European Commission proposed a Pact for Research and Innovation in Europe, in particular to support the implementation of national European Research Area (ERA) policies. The establishment of such a act was already announced in September 2020 as part of the EC communication on "A new ERA for Research and Innovation" (KoWi reported).
Switzerland can currently only participate as a non-associated third country in the first calls for proposals of the EU framework programme for research and innovation Horizon Europe. The European Commission has made this clear in the list of eligible countries published on the Funding & Tenders Portal.
The European Commission has published the Model Grant Agreement (MGA) for Unit Grants in Horizon Europe on the Funding and Tenders Portal. The Unit Grants MGA applies to Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) and ERA-Fellowships, which are both reimbursed via unit costs instead of actual costs.
