Science meets Regions Events

The Join Research Centre (JRC) is organising a series of events “Science meets Parliaments/science meets regions” around Europe during the year 2019.

The objective of this initiative is to build closer links between scientists and EU policy makers, in order to promote a culture of evidence-informed policymaking.

The events will involve different EU funded projects and researchers.

ERC advaced grant for Wilhelm Winter

Münster mathematician receives funding of 1.6m euros

A great distinction for a mathematician from the University of Münster: the European Research Council (ERC) awards an Advanced Grant to Prof. Wilhelm Winter. The grant is one of the most important in Europe awarded for research purposes. “Even for individual funding such as this, the scientific environment is of major importance – and the conditions for basic research in mathematics are ideal here at the university of Münster,” says Wilhelm Winter.

Provisional agreement on Horizon Europe

The negotiators of the Council of the EU, the European Parliament and the European Commission have reached a provisional political agreement on Horizon Europe, the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. While being a key step forward in the negotiations, the provisional agreement still needs to be formally approved by the Council and the European Parliament. Budgetary aspects have not been addressed during these negotiations, as they depend on the agreement on the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).

Study on European public procurement published

Prof Jörg Becker, Marco Niemann, and Sebastian Halsbenning investigated the development of European public procurement on request of the European Parliament

The European Union (EU) aims to make public procurement in Europe more efficient. Three new directives were adopted in 2014 to improve the award of contracts to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the number of cross-border contracts, and competition in public tenders. On request of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection of the European Parliament, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Dr. h.c.
